Makit is a proud Texas manufacturer, who has produced more than 1 million plates a year for our customers, and takes over 500 calls a month. Each plate is unique and personal for each and every customer of Makit Products.

Our orginial Make A Plate is turning 40 this year and is looking better than ever! It's time to celebrate! After 40 years, Make A Plate is still our most treasured and beloved product - known to millions. When life seems strained by the hectic pace surrounding us, it's nice to know that Make A Plate can preserve that special, happy moment-in-time for so many families and is something they will keep forever.

Makit began as the creation of Bob Hodges in 1969. One day a neighbor, who was a teacher said, "Wouldn't it be fantastic to capture kids' artwork on something useful, instead of it falling off the refrigerator and throwing it out?" With a background in plastics and dinnerware manufacturing Bob saw an opportunity to create a craft medium that children and parents would love. The Make A Plate was born. School teachers across the country continue to use our products for class art projects and family traditions have sprung up as generations create designs that become treasured heirlooms.

What was already a well known brand became even better as the company grew. Between 2003-2006, Makit became an official licensee for:

  • Disney
  • Disney/Pixar
  • Girl Scouts
  • Build A Bear
  • Crayola
  • Marvel Comics
  •

It also launched its first E-Commerce site bringing the company into the larger world market. Checkout our current events by click here

The stories we hear from our customers are legendary. Cary Grant was so enthralled with the idea of putting children's drawings on plates that, at one time he, offered to buy the company! Lady Bird Johnson had cherished more than 500 plates of her own, created by her daughters and friends over the years. Celebrities like Dick Clark, Kevin Bacon, Madonna, Matthew Broderick, Stella McCartney, Steffi Graf and Nathan Lane have all created and signed plates for charity auctions.

At Makit, we care about making memories last forever. We have no rivals when it comes to preserving one of a kind, customer created artwork on personalized dinnerware. We have further distinguished ourselves by using the same unique process to create Photo Plates, as well. Whether it is a hand drawn masterpiece, a valuable picture from a family album, or a new picture from a digital camera, the results are amazing.

The mission of Makit is to make memories that will last forever.
